Canada is one of only a few nations with no legal restrictions against abortion. In 1988, the Supreme Court of Canada ruled in the R. v. Morgentaler decision that abortion was made legal. This decision deemed the previous abortion law, the Criminal Code of Canada of 1969, unconstitutional as it violated a woman’s rights. Abortion has since been legal throughout the entire 9-months of pregnancy.
